Investment support for early-stage translation
Feedback essential for commercialising early-stage projects and technologies is being offered by an expert and investor group at AusMedtech’s Early Stage Investment Forum. Early-stage projects are invited to apply for the AusMedtech 2021 Early Stage Investment Forum, with submissions due 9 April 2021.
The Forum offers six-minute virtual quick-pitches to an expert investor panel that will include international big pharma representatives, corporate VCs and early-stage investors. Each presentation will be followed by direct feedback that will be valuable during translation and commercialisation.
In an exciting new development, the Forum is being held for the first time at AusMedtech 2021, Australia’s premier medtech event, and will be supported by Medtronic. The Forum will take place on Friday 21 May.

The latest $100 million tranche closes out an already robust Series C, and brings total capital raised since December to $1.35 billion. Following recent announcements that Thrasio had closed on almost
$500 million in debt financing and
$750 million in equity financing. Thrasio made room for existing investors that could not get enough capacity in prior rounds. These Series C-3 investments were made at a 50% step up in valuation relative to the last round.

The “I’m just grateful to have a job” mentality predates the pandemic but the massive wave of unemployment definitely supercharged it. But let’s stop for a moment and really think about it.

Renewed support for Australian automotive R&D
The Morrison Government is driving the automotive sector forward by extending the automotive research and development tariff concession until 2025, keeping high-end research activities in Australia and supporting thousands of high-wage jobs.
Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Christian Porter, said vehicle research and development is vital to the nation’s prosperity with Australia being a significant competitor on the global stage.
“By extending the automotive research and development tariff concession, the Morrison Government is supporting the ongoing design and development of cars here at home, and providing ongoing job opportunities for our highly-skilled workforce,” Minister Porter said.
